Model is K-R42, Actually we have seen this model in our competitor’s site before, but we don’t hurry to list it for sale, because we want to test the performance, and we need to know what we are selling

So, here we go, let’s check how good this first quad core tv box:

1 Specification:

This specification is coming from factory directly, and we can see some highlights for this K-R42 TV BOX:

1 Coming with Android 4.2.2 Jelly bean OS directly;

Part 1: Appearance Review

The first bulk is only light blue colour, no other colour now, please notice when you place order. The physical power on/off button is on the front of K-R42. The remote control is using 2pcs AAA battery, factory don’t product battery in the package, it is safe for the shipping and custom, so when you get this K-R42, you should install the battery in remote first;

Now let’s check the ports on K-R42, from left to right:

External wifi antenna;

RJ45 port for Ethernet;

USB 2.0 port for keyboard/mice or usb disk/hard driver;

SPDIF for audio output;

HDMI port

OTG port for connecting with PC;

You can power on/off the K-R42 with the botton on remote. Please notice this remote don’t have Gyro, so it just like a keyboard/mice, i tested with the XBMC,it’s good to use.

Classic Android 4.2 OS, and no other chinese app built-in, the cleanest rom i have seen ever:)   build in google play store.

About wifi, the external wifi antenna made K-R42 has amazing wifi signals, i will do a compare with other mini pc in later review, but from this photo, we can see, the link speed is 150MBPS, and i already confirm with factory, the K-R42 use the realtek 8188 wifi chipset;

Screen resolution,i have to say, this tv box is still coming with 720p upscale to 1080p. and the real 1080p firmware will coming later;

Ok, i have to tell you bad news about Netflix, the K-R42 sample we tested still have scrambled problemed, i have reported this problem to factory,and wait for a new update. but as we all know, All of other android 4.2 tv sticks have those problem before, but rockchip has fixed the problem, so i think the K-R42 just need a update to fix the problem.

RKgameController

RKGameControlSetting is an Android application that will help you define the regions on the screen used in a game and the corresponding buttons to map these regions to. I have tested with an allwinner a31 tablet, it just works great, i don’t feel any lags.

Please make sure your smartphone or tablet is in the same network with your TV BOX, and you should install the latest smartphone controller app in your smartphone or tablet.

Wireless Display

Wireless Display is the newest tech which allow you to mirror your smartphone to your TV, K-R42 is built in the wireless display app, if you want to use this function, run this app first, and then open the wireless display function in your smartphone or tablet, choose K-R42 to pair, and connect. We have tested with google nexus smartphone and xiaoMi 2 smartphone, all work. but as far as i know, the Samsung smartphone don’t work with this now.

XBMC

Because K-R42 is still base on rockchip rk3188 chip, so still no hardware decoding on this device, but you still can run this XBMC version in your K-R42. however, if you want to play 1080p movie smoothly, you should use the external video player, see instruction here

How – To Firmware Update of MK802IV

What you need:

A Paperclip

Your Computer

The custom rom which you just downloaded;

Step 1:

Connect MK802IV to the Computer

Prepare a Paper clip. Press the recover button of MK802 IV and don’t loose the stick. Then you can connect MK802 IV and computer by using micro USB cable (OTG port of MK802 IV to USB port of computer.

After 3-5 seconds then you can loose the stick. It will show you a dialogue box on your computer screen, it requires to install the new driver as below:

Press next….

Choose the options “Search for the best driver in these locations” as picture display,

then click “Browse”, go to the Rom Directory you extractet my Rom then Driver , then click “next” to install. After finished installation, then press “finish”.

After installation, then open “RKDevelopTool  > RKAndroidTool.exe” as below:

Then Click “Run” for update. This procedure will take around 3 minutes, please be patient!

Do NOT unplug USB cable during recovery/upgrade!

After Flashing your Stick Starts Automatic. Please wait 5 min to Finished.

Flash method:

1. uncompress the tool,you will get two file, one is key, first click the other exe file to install the tool on you PC, you will get a icon on  your desktop, open it and click “认证文件” choose key file

2. click choose the img file uncompressed from the fimware file

3. after fist 2 steps, click .    and then press the reset button in the small hole, you need somthing like needle for this. and then connact CSC868 with PC via USB cable the same time. when the blue led appears, you can loosen the reset button.

4. the first time you connact it will inform you install the driver, just click yes and next step. and finished, it will flash anto.  and there is a progress bar, when it  shows 100%, the flash is finished.

2 Power on the K-R42 tv box with the power adapter in package;

3. Unzip the flash tool to your desktop or other convenient location and locate the folder RKBatchTool1.6 – inside this folder is the flash tool program RKBatchTool and the USB drivers for the K-R42 – Don’t open anything yet!
4. Unzip the stock firmware you just download, and you will get a file named: Update_K-R42.img or similar, this is the actual firmware file.

5. Next you need your K-R42 and the mini USB – standard USB cable that came with the device.

6. See the pictures below. You need to press the small recovery button on the back which show in the photos

The idea is that you should press the recovery button for a while, and then connect your K-R42 with your pc via the mini USB to usb cable.

7. When you have successfully connected your K-R42 to the computer you should hear a sound from windows telling you that a new device has been found. You can release the recovery button now.

8. The next bit is important… we don’t want windows to try and automatically install any drivers as we want to select the ones from the RKBatchTool1.6 folder.

9. Depending on which windows version you have the next bit will be different. In an ideal world the install driver dialog will appear as shown in the picture below.

10. You need to select the option “install from a list or specific location (Advanced)

11. At the next step you need to check the option “include this location in the search” and then browse to the folder: RKBatchTool1.6/RockusbDriver

12. Click Next, and the driver should install. You will get a message to tell you the driver installation has been successful – or not!

PLEASE NOTE – If it didn’t work or Windows automatically installed a driver you will need to completely remove the driver from the system and start over. To do this varies between systems but basically you will need to locate the device manager on your PC and find a USB device called “RK31SDK″ and completely remove and delete the driver from the system.

13. If the driver installation is successful you can then proceed to the firmware installation!

14. Open the program RKBatchTool and the tool will open.

15. At the top right of the RKBatchTool Window you will see a file selector, click on this and select your Firmware file in this case: Update_k-r42_100j1101_6210.img

16. If your K-R42 is correctly connected to the PC, the RKBatchTool program will show a green square with “1″ on it. If not then you need to go back and make sure the USB driver is installed correctly.

17. Click on “Restore” to install the firmware!

18. The program will give an indication of what its doing with a progress percentage shown below, when its finished you will get a message like *****upgrade done success*****

Ok, guys, K-R42 got the new stock firmware, in our effort, factory finally release the new firmware, which fix the netflix problem, now Netflix can work on K-R42 tv box.

Confused and angry! Why my android device RAM/ROM size is less than the ADs

When you see this essay, i believe you realized that you were cheated:why my android phone/tablet/tv stick has less RAM/ROM size than the description ?

First of all, you have this puzzle means that you do not know where to check RAM/ROM size. Let me tell you how to convince yourself by discovering the truth.

When you want to check the RAM size, please go to Settings—-Apps—Running, then you will see this screen:

This is the only place that you can check the RAM without other system checking applications.(this is BEDOVE X21,512MB RAM size)

On the bottom of this screen you can find the 3 white big letters “RAM”, that is where the truth is : the RAM size used + the RAM size free= the total RAM (android original takes some RAM but i think you can understand it. Considering your laptop, your windows system will takes some RAM size too)

Someone go to settings—storage , finding that the “internal storage is 0.99GB,you maybe feel cheated, At this time, friend, RAM can not be check from “storage”, please GO TO SETTINGS—-APPS—RUNNING to find the truth.

Well, RAM size checking is easy. Now let us talk about ROM.

As we know, every android device has a flash card for memory, that is so called ROM flash memory disk. When the manufacturer install the android system and firmware into the phone, they will divide this ROM flash disk into 2 part first. The first part is called “ internal storage” ,the second part is called “Phone storage” (or maybe “SD card storage”, that is depend on the phone , this “SD card storage ” is not the extended SD card that you are thinking about, i mean all of this checking is based on the truth that you did not insert any memory card into this phone/tablet/tv stick )

Then, how to check the real ROM size of the android device ?

1: easy way, use maths.

Go to settings—storage—find the “total internal storage space “ and the “phone storage space” make an easy plus, like this one:

0.8GB+1.96GB,The result will be about 3GB ,since android system has been take some space, then this phone is 4GB RAM.

2: by antutu benchmark or antutu tester:

Download and install antutu benchmark into your phone, running it and go to “info” (you will find it on the bottom of the first interface after you run antutu benchmark):

This is the test result of XIAOMI M2 16GB(i did not extended a micro SD card into it before test, by the way,XIAOMI M2 do not support extended micro SD card ). The total memory size is 3.5GB, while the SD card size is 9.5GB. 3.5GB+9.5GB=13GB , so this phone is 16GB ROM (system takes some).

Every test application name the 2 part of memory disk differently, but the result will be the same. The ROM was divided into 2 part from the first time it was born, so both you and the seller can not nothing about this

1 Download the file from our link;

2 Decompress the download file, and run “RKAndroidTool.exe” this file on the download folder;

3 Press the recovery button on Tronsmart T428, and at the same time connect the Tronsmart T428 with you PC, and your PC will inform you find a new device, and you should follow the instruction to install the drives. and the tool will inform you Found RKAndroid….

4 Now you should choose the dev files as the following instruction:

We have read the news about kaiboer Bor F4 some days ago, but recently, Ugoos contact us, and said they have worked with Kaiboer, and will release that model to market.

They rename it as Ugoos UT1,we have got the first sample to test, so here we go:

Ugoos UT1(Kaiboer Bor F4)  use the custom-made UI, and it is design for Android TV BOX , you can use the remote control in the package to finish most of the operations.

All of the apps and icons on the destop can be setted by yourself, you can put your favouriate apps on the desktop easily;

Ugoos UT1(Kaiboer Bor F4)  Setting Menu, in this menu,you can do the wifi, ethernet setting easily, also it offer you the choice to change the sound and display settings.because we don’t have device to test the SPDIF, so we can’t confirm if it can passthrough via HDMI well, however, it do offer this settings to make you change the sound.

about HDMI Resolution, still upscale from 720p, but once we get the stock rom, we will work with our developer friends, and make the 1080p firmware.

Here is a very sweety design, As we all know, the Rockchip base tv box offer you the smartphone control function, you can use your smartphone to control tv box, however, lots of customers don’t know where to find the correct apk for smartphone, this tv box just put the apk here, just scan the QR Code,the apk will install to your smartphone directly, sweety design!

The sample i get have the XBMC built-in, i haven’t confirmed with factory if the real shipping device will also make XBMC Built-in. but it is very smooth to run in xbmc, i install some adds-on,and play some online videos, no problem to play them. but still no hardware decoding support because rockchip don’t open source:(

Like i said before, this firmware solved the Netflix problem, i can watch netflix video without problems;

Build in Rockchip EhomeMediaCenter app, so you can contorl it with your smartphone;

Tested the Droidmote app, no problem to run ( please notice, you need to root your device to get droidmote work)

Play Shaowgun with droidmote app on the big TV, just cool….

The last test is Webcam support:

no problem to run “cameraics” app, we test with Logitech C170 webcamera;

Lewy20041 just help to made a new upgrade custom rom for K-R42 quad core tv box, Here is the changelog:

How to install:

install:-unpack arhive (anywhere)-start RKBatchTool.exe-put device into flash mode (conect otg to pc and box, pres and hold buton and conect device to adapter 5v 2a)-instal proper drivers when windows ask (drivers are in package)-when you wil see number 1 in green box selec “…” button in right top corner of RKBatchTool-navigate to HFW_vx.x.x.img-pres restore button in RKBatchTool
after instal:thats the things to do aftrer you install your rom.-first bootup will be slower then the next one (android is setting ui)-go to android settings>screan>scale> and slide it to the end-next go to settings>developer options:-change all animations to “no animations”
